August has gone by in a bit of a blur to be honest, I've had so much work to do that there hasn't been as much time for blogging as I would have liked. I went to Budapest, which was amazing, but I've also spent quite a lot of this month working, still that's alright with me as when this post goes live I will be exploring the beautiful city of Venice! Anyway, onto to this month's favourites which is mainly lip products, base products and books...
Starting with the bases, I've had two that I've worn non stop! If I want to wear make up on holiday, I like something light, yet long lasting with a high SPF. Step in Benefit's Big Easy BB Cream which ticks all of the boxes. It's a light coverage BB Cream but dries to a matte finish which is so hard to find in a lightweight base! This means it's really long lasting and an SPF of 35 is pretty great too. Now, if I want something full coverage that I know will last in the heat, I turn to my old faithful Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation. This is perfect for evening's out on holiday as I know it's not going to sweat off my face. A great one for people with oily skin who like flawless coverage!
I have been loving Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream this month, "the fragrance captivates with delectable top notes of blackberry, fresh grapefruit and succulent pear. The heart imparts a rich, feminine jasmine, notes of lychee and blue wisteria. A dreamy drydown of white woods, musks and coconut water." This scent is so summery, floral and light. It's perfect for this time of year, plus the bottle is dreamy!
For my lips, I haven't fancied anything heavy and certainly nothing matte, it's been all about the shine. I know I've spoken about this on more than one occasion (this sample size has lasted for so long!) but the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01 is just the best gloss: sheer, comfortable and not sticky in the slightest, these are so quick to throw on and go. If do reach for a lipstick, I can't resist adding a bit of moisture and shine with my By Terry Baume De Rose. I still cringe at how expensive this lip balm is but it really is so lovely. It's intensely hydrating, non sticky and actually makes your lips feel moisturised instead of just sitting on top like some balms.
Essie is really the only nail polish brand I look too nowadays as there is always so much to choose from.I have been loving Cute as a Button this month as it's just such a summery pink. It's got coral undertones so doesn't look too Barbie and looks so great on fingers and toes. I'm definitely in the mood for more Essie colours, especially when Autumn rolls around!
I adore this tiny gold pineapple pedant I picked up from H&M. I'm not sure how or why pineapples have become such a trend but I do think it's so super cute and very quirky- and definitely says summer!
I posted my summer reading list earlier this month and whilst I've not completed it, I've certainly made a good start! I read both of these on my holiday to Rhodes and loved them both. You've probably heard of The Girl on The Train (who hasn't) and I'm pretty late to the party but I can definitely see what the fuss is about. This follows the life of commuter Rachel who witnesses something on the train one day and becomes sucked into a mystery of a missing woman. It's a gripping thriller with twists and turns and has you guessing until the end.
I had never read any Marian Keyes until my holiday and to be honest, I had her books piqued as light hearted easy reads when actually this book was surprisingly dark. This Charming Man follows four women and the dark secret that links them all to the charming politician Paddy De Courcy. There is a great mix of light and dark in this novel and it is one that stayed with me for a while after I finished it.
I love Autumn, but I am definitely sad summer is coming to an end! Still, the cold weather is definitely made easier by the return of The Great British Bake Off and Strictly Come Dancing! September will be a very busy month but hopefully there will still be some posts!
